Are you at your Wit's End?

Are you at your Wit's End?

Please note that this article was written in July of 2020,
and examples listed reflect what our nation was facing during that time.

Psalm 107
"...their soul fainted in them. Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble...
...there was none to help. Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble...
...they draw near unto the gates of death. Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble...
...[they] are at their wit's end. Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses..."

I encourage you to read the entirety of this passage before continuing!
You can find it here: Psalm 107:1-43

As human beings, we like to believe that we are independent. That we can "keep it all together" on our own. We try everything in our power to be self-sufficient, but true self-sufficiency is outside of our reach. We were created to be in need of a relationship with God. We are born with in need of a Savior for our souls. This Psalm outlines exactly what happens when we choose to stay in our strivings for self-sufficiency. Over and over again, we will be brought to a place of fainting, death, and our wit's end with none to help. Only then do we call on the Lord, only to fall back into the same place once again. And the cycle continues.
We have no need to fret, however. We are reminded right from the start and throughout the entire passage that the Lord is good, and His mercy endures forever.

Even in this day, between riots, civil unrest, seemingly unending conflict - we still lean unto our own understanding, our own strength. This is despite God's direct command.

Proverbs 3:5-6
"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart;
and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."

How simple all of life could be if we were not to make it so complex! We see our world through man-centered eyes, and refuse to acknowledge God's invitation to view the world as He sees it - hurting souls in need of a loving Savior. If we rely on Him, take on His view of the world and realize His purpose for mankind, we can be filled with joy in the will of God.
